## What the left says
- Saying 'Free Palestine' is a political statement, not hate speech, and conflating criticism of Israel's conduct in Gaza with antisemitism silences legitimate advocacy.
- Billionaire stadium owners like Robert Kraft used financial leverage over venues to pressure Sheeran into dropping Macklemore, illustrating how concentrated wealth can suppress dissenting political speech.
- Other performers on the tour, including Finneas and Beoga, withdrew in solidarity, suggesting significant support within the industry for Palestinian advocacy despite career risk.
- Sheeran's claim of political neutrality is seen as hypocritical given his past willingness to headline benefit concerts for Ukraine but not for Palestinian civilians.

## What the right says
- Macklemore's onstage rhetoric, including declaring 'genocide' and cursing America, went beyond simple political expression and promoted one-sided propaganda to a captive concert audience that paid to see Sheeran.
- His donation announcement included UNRWA, an organization the UN says had employees implicated in the October 7 Hamas attack that killed roughly 1,200 people and involved widespread atrocities.
- Macklemore has a documented history of incidents perceived as antisemitic, including a 2014 stage costume with an exaggerated nose and beard widely seen as an antisemitic caricature, alongside a photographed Nazi salute.
- Private venue owners and tour organizers have the right to decide who performs on their stages, and declining to platform rhetoric they view as hateful is a business decision, not a free speech violation, since Macklemore faces no government censorship.

## Common ground
- Macklemore was removed from Ed Sheeran's tour after delivering pro-Palestinian statements onstage at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
- Robert Kraft and other stadium owners pressured Sheeran to drop Macklemore from remaining tour dates.
- Multiple other opening acts, including Finneas and Beoga, withdrew from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore.
- Sheeran stated the decision to remove Macklemore was not his own but came from venue pressure.
